Top Ten Tuesday: Books I feel as though everyone has read but me.

Top Ten Tuesday is brought to us by The Broke and the Bookish.

TOP TEN BOOKS I FEEL AS THOUGH EVERYONE HAS READ BUT ME

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. The blurbs just haven't ever caught my interest, but I constantly see other bloggers swooning over some of the male characters. If they're that good, I feel like I should check 'em out. But then I see the summary again and turn away.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Seriously, people. This one isn't even out yet and I would need more than two hands to count the number of people I know that have already read this. Can I just say it's driving me CRAZY? I cannot express how much I'm anticipating this one. Really, I can't. MUST HAVE!

The Vampire Diaries series by L. J. Smith. I know absolutely nothing about these except, again, there are swoon-worthy male characters and everyone loves the TV show. Don't get me wrong - I love vampires. I guess I just never saw the appeal.

Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Do I really need to explain this one? (Please don't advise me to try it; I couldn't get past the first thirty pages.)

Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkeles. West Side Story meets Romeo and Juliet? Eh..... As "hot" as they may be, they just sound rather cliche.

I Am Number Four series by Pittacus Lore. I started this but never had the desire to finish it.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I've heard it's incredible.

Crank series by Ellen Hopkins. I know, I know. They're practically staples in a YA library. And as much as I love verse novels, these never caught my interest.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. Might as well throw in Supernaturally, too.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien. Never could get into this.

  1. The thing about 'Perfect Chemistry' is that it's so ridiculous, but so so addicting. I've re-read it a couple of times and every time I'm like "what IS this?!" and I sort of laugh at it, but at the same time I completely adore it, and I loved the 2nd book as well, and I have the 3rd one out from the library right now.

As for 'Lola', my GOSH I can't wait to read it. It's seriously killing me.

'Mortal Instruments' books are QUITE good. I put them off for forever, but I finally read them earlier this year, about the time when 'City of Fallen Angels' came out. I don't obsess over them like a lot of people, but I did really enjoy them. Jace does really live up to the hype, I've gotta say.

  2. Lola is so on my list too. How can there still be over a week til the release? I totally forgot about Paranormally/Supernaturally, but they should be on my list too. I started Paranormally and never found myself engaged so I put it down after about 50 pages.

Happy reading! My list is over here if you'd like to stop by.

  3. Twilight and City of Bones were on my list, too.

If I could make a recommendation? Get Perfect Chemistry. It's totally fabulous!

And if it makes you feel any better, Lola and the Boy Next Door doesn't technically release until October 4th, so no shame there. :)

As for Lord of the Rings ... I'm happy with the movies. *ducks a tomato*

  4. You are definitely not alone! I haven't read any of these books with the exception of the Twilight Saga and the first Mortal Instruments book. You should definitely read City of Bones! The summary may not be good... but the story inside definitely it! :)

  5. I haven't finished LOTR either. I want to. You must read Paranormalcy! I'd say you must read Twilight, but I have to admit it's not for everyone.

  6. I haven't read almost all of these too. I've read Perfect Chemistry and I read that on a total leap of faith. I didn't think I'd like it all and somehow I ended up loving it. Even though it is extremely cheesy! I've read Lord of the Rings, but it's been years!

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

  7. I'm laughing! Because of the Lola book. It's sooo true. I have to say that my copy is preordered already because it's everywhere and DUH! Anna was amazing so...

Perfect Chemistry is super good. I know it doesn't seem like it but once you start, you'll get into it.

About Crank: I thought the same thing; "Verse? Not my thing" but I read a review on Impulse and then watched another one and I ordered it.

    Oh, Lola... (smiles)

  8. Perfect Chemistry and I Am Number Four are two I could have added to my list too. So many books, so little time!

  9. I read the Lord of the Rings when I was 13. I think that's about the right time to read them. As for all the others - I'm with you. Haven't read them. But a lot of them are YA and urban fantasy and they're not my thing. I've tried a few of them, but they haven't held my interest.

  10. I have Twilight and The Book Thief on my list, too! So glad I'm not alone......

  11. Paranormalcy is fun!

I would never try to make you read Twilight. Friends don't do that sort of thing.

  12. The Mortal Instruments series was really good and I am not a huge fan of paranormal fiction. I wouldn't even bother to read the Twilight series. I totally agree about Lola. Where are all these bloggers getting it?

  14. I actually enjoy reading The Vampire Diaries, if only because of Damon Salvatore. It's kind of ridiculous and fantastical but in a good, entertaining sort of way.

I've been meaning to read The Book Thief too. And I can't wait for Lola to come out finally!

  15. The Book Thief is amazing and I am passionate about the Lord of the Rings--but my daughter could never get into it eaither. She tried to. kaye—the road goes ever ever on

  16. I should have added The Vampire Diaries and Crank to my list too, because I haven't read either. I love the TVD TV show though - it's pretty amazing, I must say! But the books... They're not good at all.

  17. From your list, I've read Perfect Chemistry(it was good, but definitely cliche) LotR(it was good) Paranormalcy was lots of fun :) I Am Number Four(I read it, but it just wasn't good & good for you for not wasting your time) City of Bones(it was good & I could see the appeal, but I didn't swoon ;) so I haven't read the rest, although I might in the future) & The Book Thief - definitely amazing, one of the best books I've read & definitely a must-read. I actually heard about The Vampire Diaries that the tv series is much better than the books, which I haven't read, but I tried watching the series & after 5 episodes I gave up, although after that I've been told that from episode 6 is really good. As for Twilight, it's one of the series I won't ever read.
LOL I forgot myself, sorry :)

  18. LotR has been on a lot of people's lists today! Maybe it's one of those books that people say they've read but haven't?

Crank is one of my favorite books (and series). I also really enjoyed The Book Thief but it probably wouldn't be on my favorites list.

  19. Ah!!!! You will get to read Lola soon. No worries.

I tried reading the LotR series. I think I got to the third one but I never finished. I think I'm going to attempt the Hobbit though.

And LMAO, I am never even touching Twilight. <3

  20. Oh, thanks for reminding me of The Mortal Instruments! I should have included that one on my list, too.

Lord of the Rings and I Am Number Four are both on my list, too.

You must find time to read The Book Thief! It's as good as everyone says.

And I have no desire to read Twilight either!

  21. I hope Lola lives up to your expectations. I enjoyed it nearly as well as Anna and I'm glad it's finally being released! I'd also like to read The Book Thief sometime soon.
I think that I prefer the TV Vampire Diaries to the book series actually. I've seen The Mortal Instruments on a lot of lists - that's a fun series.
