Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday (19).

Book Blogger Hop

I came across the Hop and Follow Friday while I was blog hopping - how appropriate! - and decided to join in on the fun.

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly thing going on over at Crazy-for-Books. Follow My Book Blog Friday is hosted by Parajunkee. If you're a new blogger like I am, or have been blogging for a while, stop by the sites and get involved!

--------------------------------------------

Weekly question: What book influenced or changed your life? How did it influence/change you?

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I'm not sure how old I was when I first read this, but I was young. I already knew I liked to read, but Speak made me realize I LOVED reading and couldn't get enough. It was beautifully written and had such a captivating story and I thought, I want to write something just as compelling, I want to use my voice to talk to everyone. I decided I wanted to become a writer, and nothing got in my way after that.

  3. Speak is an incredibly poignant book. Wintergirls really impacted me. I've suffered with an ED for almost 10 years, and reading it and about disorders for the first time was eye-opening.

    Happy Friday, Alissa :)

  10. Thanks for dropping by, Alissa! I would definitely recommend reading some Tamora Pierce - my favorites are the Song of the Lioness and the Immortals series.

I have to admit, I haven't read Speak yet! I've heard nothing but good things about it though, so I really should read it. I think I've just shied away from it so far because it's such emotionally intense subject matter.

  11. Hopping through. I don't think of Speak as one of my most influential books, but it was wonderful - a must read for teens.
    Happy weekend!

  12. Wow, this is going to age me! the book that had the biggest influence on me was Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. I suppose I should clarify that by saying the first time i read it was too young to understand the philosophy she was pushing (a philosophy that I now do not agree with), but the book pushed me towards a stronger work ethic, and that was a good thing!

  18. Here I am hopping on by...

I went all over the map with this question on my blog. I read and enjoy almost every genre of fiction out there. There’s no way I could just pick one.

So I talked about all of them. Even romance fiction (sort of)! I invite you to hop over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and see for yourself.
