Blogger Confession: What's the last book you could not finish? (or had a hard time finishing?)
Going Bovine by Libba Bray. I know, I know. It's an amazing book. It won the Printz award, after all. Plus the writing is catchy. And a kid with mad cow disease? What's not interesting about that? I was hooked until I got about halfway through, and then everything just quickly fell flat for me. I like creepy, crazy, funny, strange. But not the kind that Going Bovine offers. For lack of a better way to say it, the story basically unraveled, along with my interest.
I haven't completely abandoned it, though. I hope to return to it sometime in the future, because it is in no way a "bad" book. I'm just not feeling it at the moment.

Vlogging: This is How We RollREVIEW! The Iron Queen - You must read this; it's fabulous! **
Coming up this week:
Review of Stay by Deb Caletti!
I have to say that I felt the same way about Going Bovine, maybe it was the whole philosophical thing or whatever. But, I really enjoyed her Gemma Doyle trilogy and I cannot wait to read my pretty copy of Beauty Queens that I've recently won, but there was something about this book that just didn't sit well with me.

At least you gave it a good shot! I never tried that one.
ReplyDeleteI only read the first book in the The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, but that one I really loved. ;) I'm not liking the sound of Going Bovine. It just sounds WEIRD> :(

My last DNF was The Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck. It's not a terrible book, but the writing was a bit weird and I just didn't care about the protagonist, so after 100 pages I set it aside.
ReplyDeleteI might still read Going Bovine, mostly because I'm into the weird and the philosophical (one year of philosophy for liberal ed requirement does that to you).
ReplyDeleteNew follower here! Happy Friday!

I've only read Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle series and I loved it, so it's a bit disappointing to hear that that Going Bovine didn't work for you. Perhaps I'll check it out one day!

ReplyDeleteHopping through. I'm really interested in Going Bovine, but I've heard other people say they had a really hard time getting into it.
