It's vs. Its

It's = It is.
EX. It's raining outside.
Meaning, It is raining outside.

Its (with no apostrophe) = possession.
EX. I love its cover.
or
I judge a book by its cover.

Meaning, I love the cover, which belongs to a book.
&
I judge a book by the cover that belongs to it.
